If that’s the case with you, then by the time now you really don’t have to worry about it because, in this tutorial, I’m going to show you how you can easily setup your modem configuration in no time to continue to use your service, by also saving the money and time.
So, Let’s See How to Do It;
The first thing what you’ll need to do is to collect all the necessary hardware materials, in order to set up the Modem connection. Here’s the list of those items:
Phone Line Splitter (Don’t need to buy, if your connection doesn’t support any Telephone connection) Phone Line Filter (Optional) Two/Three RJ-11 Cables (Height according to you) One/Two RJ-45 Cable Modem (ADSL or ADSL + Wi-Fi Router, whatever you wanted to use)
After collecting all these material, let’s move on to the setup process; Step 1 – First, you need to plug the phone line splitter to your broadband line (which is directly connected to your Internet Service Provider) to split or divide the main line into two different lines so you can easily use both of your telephone and modem. You can skip using the splitter if the connection doesn’t support the Voice over Internet Protocol. Step 2 – Then, Join the one end of the RJ-11 cable to the splitter/main line and the other to the modem, and after that, you’ll need to do the same for your telephone too. You can use a ‘Phone Line Filter’, in case if the voice has some noise over the phone calls. Step 3 – Now, connect one end of the RJ-45 cable to the modem and the other one into your computer and this will allow your computer to do to data transferring and receiving over the wires. If you just only have a modem; like the one which you get free from your ISP but still wanted to use the internet connection wirelessly. In that condition, you can install an extra WiFi Router which you need to connect to the modem, and then connect your computer to the router by the use of RJ-45 Cable as shown below. Step 4 – Now all the connection is done, but still you have to configure the modem connection setup to start the internet. In order to configure your modem, first, you’ll need to find the gateway IP of your modem to open the configuration page. Most of the times it’s like “192.168.0.0” or “192.168.0.1” or you can find it on the manufacturer’s website of that modem (with the login details). Step 5 – Now select the connection type and configure it by adding all the details what your ISP told or gave you. You can also ask your ISP for those details too. List of the common connection types used by the users:
PPPoE: Select this option if your ISP requires you to use a PPPoE (Point to Point Protocol over Ethernet) DSL providers typically use this option. This method of connection requires you to enter a Username and Password (provided by your Internet Service Provider) to gain access to the Internet. The supported authentication protocols are PAP and CHAP. Dynamic IP: If the ISP’s servers assign the router’s IP addressing upon establishing a connection, select this option. Static IP: If your ISP has assigned a fixed IP address, select this option. The ISP provides the value for the IP Address.
Then just save the setting and try to use the internet connection.
Step 6 – When you’ve done with the ADSL Setting, now you’ll need to move on to wireless router setting to add a password into your Wi-Fi connection.
